Power Company Rejects the People of Vermont’s Wish for a Non Nuclear Future!
Greenpeace response to Entergy’s lawsuit against Vermont
In response to Entergy’s lawsuit against the state of Vermont to force the continued operation of Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, Greenpeace nuclear campaigner Jarred Cobb said:
“Entergy’s lawsuit to force it’s nuclear plant on the state of Vermont is disappointing, but not unexpected. Vermonters have learned repeatedly that Entergy does not conduct business in an honest manner. We’ve seen that when its executives lie to state officials and withhold information from the public about it’s old nuclear power plant and its radioactive leaks.
Instead of accepting the people of Vermont’s wishes for a clean, renewable energy future, Entergy wants to force Vermonters to accept another 20 years of dangerous and unwanted nuclear power. Entergy has known for years that it cannot continue to operate the plant without a certificate of public good. This lawsuit reveals how little the company values the democratic process. The people of Vermont have spoken; Vermont Yankee is not welcome to operate in the state after March 2012.”
