Ocean Facts, Movies and Songs to Celebrate World Oceans Day!

World Oceans Day is celebrated each June 8th. The theme this year is Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet and nothing could be more true. The ocean provides so much to the world and could provide much more in the form of wave, tidal and ocean circulation kinetic energy. The health of the world’s oceans is severely threatened by CO2 production from the burning of fossil fuels, plastic garbage and the decimation of the ocean ecosystem’s apex predator, the shark.
Some ocean facts you may not know:
- The ocean plays a critical role in regulating our weather and climate.
- More than 2.6 billion people rely on the ocean for their primary source of protein.
- 100 million sharks per year are being killed to make expensive soup.
- There are few things more peaceful than sitting watching and listening to the waves!
