Join the Human Chain Against Coal on the Polish-German Border Tomorrow

We wanted to give a heads up to our readers about the Human Chain Against Coal event taking place at the German-Polish border on Saturday, August 23rd, 2014.   This international event is being staged to protest the planned mines in the Lusatia region.  Greenpeace together with partner organizations and local associations invite people to join in creating an eight kilometer-long Human Chain Against Coal.

According to event organizers,

More than 6.000 people in the border region could lose their homes and livelihoods to new open-cast mines as energy companies such as Swedish Vattenfall and the Polish energy group PGE aim to dig up the billions of tonnes of lignite which lies beneath their villages.

Participants from at least 14 European countries are expected.  So if you are looking for a way to support renewable energy this weekend,  you can participate in person at the following coordinates:

WHAT: Human chain between Poland and Germany WHEN: 23rd of August, starting 1.45 p.m. till 2.15 p.m.

WHERE: Between Grabice (Poland) and Kerkwitz (Germany

Don’t live close enough to get there by tomorrow?  Fear not, you can still support the cause on their website, here.
