Solar Hot Water Contractor Award. ( Solar Thermal Magazine ). April, 2014

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) recently presented an award for “Excellence in Quality” to Renovus Energy Inc., an Ithaca contractor participating in NYSERDA’s Solar Hot Water incentive program. This award is in recognition of overall excellence and responsiveness to program requirements. NYSERDA’s Solar Hot Water program provides incentives to help customers with electric hot water heaters to reduce the cost of installation of residential and non-residential solar hot water systems. Solar hot water systems, also called solar thermal systems, use sunlight to heat hot water, reducing electricity use. “I commend Renovus Energy for its commitment to exceptional service and for supporting a technology that leads the way toward cleaner communities and a more sustainable New York,” said John B. Rhodes, President and CEO, NYSERDA.

This award not only highlights the dedication of our contractors, it reinforces the State’s commitment, under the leadership of Governor Cuomo, to reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, protecting our environment and enhancing the State’s diverse renewable energy portfolio.

Electric hot water generally makes up 17 to 20 percent of a homeowner’s monthly electric bill. Solar hot water systems can provide approximately 50 to 80 percent of a homeowner’s hot water needs and generally have a very attractive payback period. Solar hot water incentives through NYSERDA are granted first-come, first served, and applications will be accepted until Dec. 31, 2015 or until the funds are fully committed. The program provides incentives of up to $4,000 per electric meter for eligible residential systems and up to $25,000 per electric meter for eligible non-residential systems. Federal tax credits of 30 percent for residential and non-residential systems, and New York State tax credits of 25 percent up to $5,000 for residential systems, may also be available. In addition to incentives, NYSERDA provides financing through Green Jobs-Green New York (GJGNY) for solar hot water systems and training programs for installers. GJGNY is a statewide initiative to promote energy efficiency and the installation of clean technologies to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions, support sustainable community development and create opportunities for green jobs.
