A Very Scary Global Warming Update – Yes It Is Real.

Netflix has come out with a very original award winning documentary of the unseen impact of global warming in our oceans. As politicians scoff at climate change and the idea that the planet is warming because you know we still have cold winters, our oceans are quietly dying.

While we have seen a definite increase in average air temperature with every summer in the U.S. being the hottest on record for the last 3 years, what is happening to the ocean temperatures?

Most of the earth is water, so it should not be too surprising that over 90 percent of the green house gas effect temperature rise is in the oceans. There are some areas that are seeing temperatures of over 15 degrees above normal.

This is having an impact on a creatures in the ocean as well as the ocean currents. These changes in ocean temperature are responsible for storms being much stronger than before. In the U.S. alone, the 2017 hurricane season was the most costly on record with over $ 300 billion in damage. This would go along way to developing renewable energy right?

When I watched this documentary, I found it very disturbing and I am someone that prides themselves on keeping current on sustainability and environmental impacts.

It caught me off guard.

The great barrier reef off the north east coast of Australia is the largest coral cluster in the world and it is so large you can see it from space.

Coral is actually an animal in that it has a skeleton and living tissue and it consumes other organisms. It is very susceptible to ocean conditions such as PH and temperature. This animal is dying and this video documents how quickly and to what extent.

The timeline of coral extinction will shock you and it should. Our window of opportunity to change course on climate change is closing rapidly. Soon if we do not abandon our addiction to fossil fuels, all we will be able to do is react to the consequences. Who knows where that will end.

The sad part of this ( there are many), is that today we have the technology at our finger tips to stop this from getting worse. Of course this was the intent behind the Paris climate agreement to which the U.S. is vowing to pull out of. The truth is that even if everyone followed the agreement as made, it did not go far enough. You will see what I mean when you watch this team and now global teams, document the death of an entire ecosystem in our lifetimes.

Here is the official trailer for it. I have found it on Amazon if you like and included some links.
