It seems like we may be seeing a truely automomous car that is priced for the average consumer. The question is whether we as consumers are really ready for this.
Tesla has announced that they have accelerated the time table for a commercial autonomous car. They have boosted the computing power and the number of sensors on the car making the next generation vehicle able to sense it’s surroundings where no human can hope to see or hear.
In the next year, Tesla Model S units will record real world driver data in the background and compare driver reactions to what the computer would have done. This computer data will be the basis for learning for the vehicle.
After one year, Elon Musk has promised that a fully autonomous car will make the trip from New York to Los Angeles without any human intervention. Maybe there will not even be a driver.
Are we ready for a truely autonomous car?
So you tell me. are we ready for a car that needs no driver, ever?
