How Would You Like An Electric Airplane Test Flight?
Siemen’s has recently released it’s latest commercial electric airplane drivetrain and many aircraft designers are starting to incorporate in new products. Here is a video from AVweb of an actual test flight in all electric two seater aircraft my by the Slovenia based company, Pipistrel.
The pure-electric Alpha Electro aircraft is availble for sale right now. AVweb‘s Paul Bertorelli recently went to Slovenia to fly the aircraft and prepared this video report.
The electric aircraft has some innovative designs such as rechargable batteries that can be swapped out in under 10 minutes and a propeller that is designed not only to power the craft forward but to generate electricity back to the batteries on descent.
The battery management system is able to predict battery failures in advance and take actions to protect the battery in question. This seems like a very important feature of any electric flying machine.
This Electric Airplane Test Flight Was The Quietest Ever!
Also noticeable is how quiet the aircraft is to observers on the ground. Flight schools are very interested in this feature as small airports are often located near residential areas.
The batteries can be charged in less than one hour and this one hour test flight used about 2 dollars in electricity.
It seems the future for air travel is very likely to be electric, so we should all pay attention new developments in the technology such as this.
