JA Solar, a chinese solar power product company, has announced that they have developed and begun mass production of 60-cell double-glass solar modules. These modules are encapsulated using 2.5-mm thick high strength tempered glass on both sides with a frameless design.
When compared to regular PV modules with glass only covering the front side, double-glass solar modules have proven to be much more reliable and durable, as well as weather proof for deployment in the extreme environments of high-temperature, high-humidity, windy, salty, or arid conditions such as coastal areas, fish farms, and deserts
According to a statement released by JA Solar, the 60-cell double-glass solar modules successfully passed all of the reliability tests required by IEC61215 and IEC61730 standards and obtained TUV SUD certifications.
The modules were designed in accordance with IEC standards for 1,500V systems are being backed by performance warranty of 30 years. This warranty guarantees power degradation of no more than 2.5% in the first year followed by a linear annual degradation rate of 0.5%. JA claims that at the end of this warranty, the performance level of such a double glass module will still be 85% of its initial rated power.
