There is no doubt that what we need in the world is less petroleum engineers and more clean energy experts, particularly in the area of clean transportation. There is no cleaner aspiration for the world than to replace the current 3.5 % impact to climate change from air transportation, with zero % impact,by using something other than fossil fuels.
Alternative fuels are a hopeful prospect as well as solar powered electric technology to replace the dirty fleet of airplanes that we have in service today.

A totally solar powered commercial plane the size of a 747 is years away and will require a lot of research and development money and time.
To accomplish this task we will also need engineers, scientist and technicians trained in aeronautics and solar energy technology to pursue the development and work to continuously improve each design.

In this video, a group of students take on the challenge of setting a record for their country for the longest time in the air for a solar powered model airplane. Hopefully some or all of them will take on even bigger clean energy challenges in the future.
