Home Solar Power in North Carolina ( Solar Thermal Magazine)
Yes! Solar Solutions and Durham, N.C. non-profit NC WARN announce the launch of Solarize Western Wake, enabling home-owners to participate in bulk purchasing and tiered pricing.
“The Solarize programs have been so successful because homeowners want lower electric bills and options for where and who they get their electricity from” said Kathy Miller, Co-Founder and CEO at Yes! Solar Solutions.
Making Solar Simple and Affordable
Hundreds of homeowners have already benefited from multiple Solarize programs in North Carolina, resulting in 1.5 megawatts of new rooftop solar in 2014. The Solarize model started in Oregon in 2009, and is based on reducing the soft cost for the solar installer for marketing and outreach, which is done by the non-profit organization. These cost savings are passed on to the customer. A set package of components and pricing plus vetted installers makes the decision a yes or no.
Solar Tax Incentives Expiring
Solarize Western Wake is getting a lot of attention now in light of the planned expirations of the North Carolina 35% tax credit at the end of 2015, and the 30% federal tax credit in 2016. A combination of tax incentives, lower industry pricing on panels, and the Solarize discount makes solar a good investment for many. There are also new solar loans, some with zero down payments.
Other Solarize Programs in the Triangle
NC WARN is also re-opening enrollment in the Solarize Durham and Chatham County programs. Next Climate in Carrboro is re-opening Solarize Orange County and launched Solarize Research Triangle April 1, 2015, which includes employees of Triangle companies and of Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill.
