Wave Energy Converters ( Solar Thermal Magazine)
The world’s first commercial-scale wave-power station has gone live off the coast of Portugal. This footage shows how the 140m-long snake-like devices works to provide clean electricity to over 1500 homes. The three wave energy converters from Pelamis are rated at 750 kwatts each.
The amount of energy that is just waiting for us to harness in the ocean is tremendous and overshadows anything that will ever come out of a coal mine, fracked natural gas or shale oil well. The advantage over solar power is that the waves are moving day and night and are much more consistent and periodic than wind energy.
It is for this reason that we need to pay attention to developments in wave and ocean energy technology and advancements. Don’t worry, we will keep you updated.
