Strata Solar, a turnkey solar provider, has recently surpassed the $ 1 Billion dollar mark in project investment in North Carolina. The company is headquartered in Chapel Hill and has over 65 solar projects in 40 counties across the state. Founded in 2009, Strata Solar has brought 350 Megawatts of solar energy online and has helped North Carolina become the third largest state in the nation in regards to solar installations.
On Thursday, October 9th, Strata staff, elected officials, solar industry advocates and land owners gathered at a Strata solar farm to celebrate the investment. The guests were given a tour of the facility and then gathered to listen to a few words of reflection on this momentous milestone.
“This is a really big day for Strata Solar, a company that started as a family business serving its local community. We had big dreams and wanted to make a difference in our local environment and here we are today, celebrating 1 Billion dollars’ worth of investment with utility scale projects across our entire state.” said Markus Wilhelm, Co-Founder and CEO of Strata Solar.
Among the keynote speakers were Governor Pat McCrory, Rep. William Brisson and Senator Brent Jackson. The event took place at the Anderson Solar Facility inRoseboro, NC which is the political district for both Rep. Brisson and Sen. Jackson. The speakers reflected on the overall importance of the solar industry, the positive impact it has had on employment, the importance of both the local investment and the environmental benefits.
“Solar energy is a big part of North Carolina’s all-of-the-above energy strategy, and we thank Strata Solar for its impressive investment in our state. North Carolina is a national leader in solar energy, and companies like Strata Solar have played a big role in our past and will continue to do so in the future.” said Governor Pat McCrory.
According to Wilhelm, his company has provided employment to 2000 workers during the last 5 years, including veterans and minority groups.
“We provide training and opportunity for young men and women to learn new skills and gain valuable experience in a market that is growing. These are competitive jobs that equip these people, most of them aged 18-25, with the confidence that is necessary to grow their careers.”
