    How to videos are good but promoting this sort of practice with poorly designed and installed components is a reason many people lose faith in solar. Paralleling batteries like this doesn’t work very well (each battery will have different resistances and electricity always follows the path of least resistance) as one will do all the work and the other battery will mostly be a load on the good battery. But the main mistake with this system is the fridge which is an absorpsion type that will use up to 4 times the power of a compressor fridge. Actually that little camp fridge will use more power than most full size domestic fridges. Those 85 watt panels in this application are probally rated around 4 Amps so instead of 85 watts time 4 = 340 watts you have 4 Amps times 4 times 12 volts = 192 watts if add a battery efficiency of 80% (with these batteries in parallel like this it’s probably closer to 50-60%) to this we are down to around 154 watts. If we multiply this by our available sun hours (average southern australia is 4 hours approx) 154 x 4 = 612 watt hours of usable solar generation per day.     Of less importance is the panels are all connected together without any fusing to protect the panels from each other. This is required with 3 or more panels in parallel.
    Although this system runs at Extra Low Voltage which means no electrical licence is required to make these connections it still must comply with Australian standards and be safe. No sign of fusing on the battery or anywhere else is dangerous with those batteries capable of a short circuit current of over 1000 Amps.
