The Spanish Wind Energy Industry Launches a Campaign to Blow Away Wind Energy Myths

The Spanish wind energy industry, through the Spanish Wind Energy Business Association (AEE) – of which ACCIONA is a member – has launched the Act on Facts campaign in the framework of the EWEA 2014 Wind Energy Conference held this week at the Barcelona Trade Fair.

Luis Polo, managing director of the Spanish Wind Energy Business Association (AEE) states that “this campaign is based 100% of hard facts and designed to highlight the truth about wind energy. Our aim is to win over people wielding inaccurate data and equip those who defend wind power so they can do so even more effectively.”

The campaign, which has already been successfully launched in other countries, centers around the www.ActOnFacts.org website. The basic building block of the Spanish project is a video that destroys the myth that wind power is expensive. It explains that, in fact, the average Spanish family only paid about €3.5 per month for wind energy in 2013 (accounting only for incentives).

Wind energy also drives down the wholesale electrical market price by displacing more expensive technologies when the wind blows. Taking this fact into account, households saved €2.50 per month. The website provides access to the figures and reports that back all the statements on the video. The website also provides resources that support wind energy initiatives.
