arevaCHARLOTTE, N.C. – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently selected Mike Rencheck, AREVA Inc. president and CEO, to serve as one of the department’s ambassadors for the Minorities in Energy Initiative. Rencheck will serve as an ambassador for a two-year term, which will run through 2015.

“At AREVA, we are dedicated to developing the next generation of energy industry leaders, and I am honored to serve as an ambassador for this important initiative,” said Rencheck. “It is through partnerships such as this that we will build the highly skilled workforce that is vital to our clean energy future.”

As an ambassador, Rencheck will serve as an advocate for expanding the role of minorities in the energy sector, including raising awareness of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education; creating better partnerships between students and industry professionals; and improving energy literacy.

Launched in September 2013, the Minorities in Energy Initiative furthers the administration’s goal of increasing engagement in energy and STEM fields. The initiative aims to connect diverse communities to address the challenges of energy economic development, STEM education and climate change. Ambassadors will also help to plan the initiative’s annual awards program, which recognizes minority community achievements related to these issues.
