The Evolution of the Electric Motorcycle has Begun

Electric Motorcycle ( Solar Thermal Magazine) – The combustion engine is well over one hundred years old and for sure there have been motorcycles as least as long as this. During this time engineers have refined and optimized the combustion process, developed lighter and stronger materials, electronics and ways for mixing the combustion components. Tires and braking systems have also changed radically in the past 100 years.

In 1890 the top recorded speed for a  motorcycle built by Hildebrand & Wolfmuller was less than 30 mph while today commercial gasoline combustion engine motorcycles from companies like Suzuki and Honda can exceed 190 mph.

In contrast the commercial electric motorcycle is very young indeed.  Racing enthusiasts have been quick to realize that this new frontier of electric motors offers a huge opportunity for innovation and improvement. I mean the electric bikes today are really fast, but consider what this technology may look 50 years from now.

This video shows such a group of experienced racers as they push the envelope of electric motorcycle technology.

Enjoy the ride.
