Solar thermal magazine Visit Announced to Ivanpah Solar Thermal Plant for Conference Attendees

Now Ivanpah has opened, all eyes are on the plant to see what its performance means for tower technology. It has now been announced that attendees of CSP Today USA 2014 (5-6 June, Las Vegas) will be given the opportunity to visit the operational plant.

London, UK

The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is now fully commercial and delegates will be able to get an exclusive first look at the facility on the morning of 4 June.

Marco Geraghty, the organizer of the 8th annual CSP Today USA event, announced the news. “Now Ivanpah is online, everyone wants to see it in action; I have been inundated with inquiries from the Middle East and South Africa who want to visit the plant and understand the technology.”

He added,

We are delighted to be able to offer attendees this unique opportunity and showcase the most recent milestone in U.S. engineering.

With a power output of 392MW (gross), Ivanpah is the largest CSP project in the world. The plant spans over 3500 acres and features over 170’000 low impact heliostats.

In an interview with CSP Today, Joe Desmond, SVP of Marketing and Government affairs at Brightsource Energy highlighted the importance of the Ivanpah project, explaining how it “demonstrates how large scale CSP systems operate, which is important for proving the technology from a technological viewpoint.” Desmond concluded that the lessons learned during construction “have been applied as the project has progressed through Unit 1, Unit 2, and Unit 3, and has contributed to driving down costs, all of which are vital to ensuring the future success of CSP.”

NRG Energy, the largest investor in the project and operators of the plant through its wholly owned subsidiary NRG Energy Services, will take attendees on an exclusive tour of the facility. To see more details on the site visit, as well as CSP Today USA 2014, please visit https://goo.gl/F4HznI.
