Solar thermal magazine Origis Energy has Commissioned Two Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Plants totaling 23.5 MW-DC in the U.S. state of Georgia.

The plants will participate in Georgia Power’s (Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.) Large-Scale Solar Initiative, under which the utility plans to build 50 MW of PV plants in the state by 2015. When two other programs are included, Georgia Power plans a total of 785 MW of PV by 2016.

“We are pleased to see these solar facilities coming online as part of our Large-Scale Solar Initiative,” said Georgia Power Renewable Implementation Manager Ervan Hancock. “Georgia has one of the fastest growing and most competitive solar markets in the nation.”

“Through agreements with developers like Origis Energy, which allow us to cultivate cost-effective solar energy for our customers, we anticipate more than 500 new solar projects across the state will be brought online in the coming years.”

The two PV plants comprise 78,160 PV modules, and are located in Mitchell and Meriweather Counties. Seminole Financial Services LLC (Belleair Bluffs, Florida, U.S.) provided construction financing, with permanent financing provided by Bank of America Merrill Lynch (New York City).
