The MENA Renewable Energy conference will provide the latest up-to-date information, governmental strategies, innovation and technologies that are driving the MENA renewable market forward.

Supported by the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), Emirates Solar Industry Association (ESIA), Saudi Arabia Solar Industry Association (SASIA), the event provides the perfect platform in bringing key stakeholders together to discuss and explore the untapped potential of the renewable energy projects sector in the MENA region.

According to current MEED statistics, over US$ 20 billion worth of renewable energy projects are currently being developed, planned and executed in the MENA region.

Sponsored by Sustainable Solutions, the event hosts key industry experts including Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President, Strategy & Business Development, DEWA, Kishan Khoday, Deputy Resident Representative, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Dr Steven Griffiths, Executive Director of Institute Initiatives, Professor of Practice, Masdar, Richard Palmer, Advisor-Structured Finance and Capital Markets, Mubadala, Thierry Tardy, Director, Acquisitions & Project Finance, ACWA Power and Peter J. Goodall, Senior Manager – Structured Finance Division, Banque Saudi Fransi to name a few.

Vahid Fotuki, President, Emirates Solar Industry Association (ESIA), Chairman, MEED Events said, “MEED has a long reputation of organising excellent conferences. It is an honour for ESIA to join forces with MEED in launching their first summit dedicated exclusively to renewable energy.”

The conference will provide the latest research project statistics and views on the MENA renewables sector and will explore where the global energy market is heading and how the MENA region fits into the larger picture, exploring the plans for the US$ 3.5 billion Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park which is Dubai’s first mega solar power project, the challenges of meeting future regional power targets across the region, and analysing finance and investment opportunities in the sector.

Kishan Khoday, Deputy Resident Representative, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said ‘The MEED MENA Renewable Energy conference is a timely gathering to review regional trends in expanding clean energy. The UN advocates a global target of doubling the share of renewables in the energy mix by 2030, and signs are positive. In 2011, US$257 billion was invested globally in renewable energy, with more than 118 countries setting renewable strategies and policies. Major economies are leading the way, and efforts in the Arab region are critical to achieving the global vision.”
