California Children’s Center Goes Solar with West Hills Construction and GreenVolts

California Children’s Center Goes Solar with West Hills Construction and GreenVoltsFremont, California. GreenVolts, Inc., provider of the industry’s first and only complete and fully integrated solar system, is proud to join McKinley Children’s Center and West Hills Construction to celebrate the completion of a 496 kW project for the McKinley campus in San Dimas, California. The project, distributed across three different locations at the school, including one that provides shade for a lunch area, will offset up to 100 percent of the Center’s annual electricity use.

For more than 100 years, McKinley has provided premier care, including residential, health, counseling, education, sports and activities, events, and placement services for foster children. The solar system, designed specifically to meet land use objectives at the campus, will offset most of the Center’s energy use, allowing resources to be directed toward care and programs that create opportunity for the children.

“Our infrastructure decisions are made with a long-term view toward value and maintaining the highest level of quality,” said Al Mason, chief executive officer of McKinley Children’s Center. “West Hills Construction has done a great job on this project, the GreenVolts system looks good, and we all are excited about saving energy costs while creating a healthy, green environment.”

West Hills Construction worked closely with McKinley to design a system that conformed best to the layout, landscaping, and use requirements of the campus. The GreenVolts modular design and distributed inverter architecture enabled the system to be installed in three separate sections, including an unused portion of the property adjacent to the highway, and a raised section that also serves as a shade for an outside lunch area. West Hills Construction will operate and maintain the system, using the GreenVolts ISIS energy management software which offers in-depth monitoring and control from anywhere on the Internet.

“Building in and around existing structures can be challenging, and our top concern was delivering the best system in a design that was safe for the children and helped McKinley get the most out of their resources,” said Rusty Wood, Vice President of West Hills Construction. “Through a very diligent design process, the GreenVolts system was the only integrated photovoltaic solution that accomplished meeting McKinley’s goals of electric savings and children’s safety, while working around pre-existing problematic site conditions and architecture requirements.”

“To be chosen as a partner in this project by organizations with the reputations and accomplishments of McKinley Children’s Center and West Hills Construction is an honor,” said David Gudmundson, CEO of GreenVolts. “That solar energy can help McKinley further its contribution to the community is a source of pride for GreenVolts and a positive for the industry.”

A ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony will be held at the San Dimas campus at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 9. For more information on this event, please contact Rhonda Beltran, McKinley’s Development Director at (909) 670-1577 or via email at [email protected].
